Before turning professional, Dale was ranked England's number one amateur and represented his country representing Great Britain and Ireland in the 2009 Walker Cup — one of the most prestigious team events in amateur golf.

Dale qualified for the 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Anne's, made the cut, and finished the weekend tied with Rory McIlroy.
